The POISE is an arc lamp, 2.30 m high, with a beige fabric shade on a heavy, round base (Ø 58 cm). The arc extends up to 2 meters to the side – this allows you to hang the light above a sofa or dining table without needing a ceiling connection anywhere.

That's exactly what an arc lamp is for: light in the middle of the room, without drilling. The heavy base keeps it stable. The 2.70 m cord has a switch on the cable.
